What is a Home Theater?

“THEATER”…the word evokes memories of Saturday afternoons at the local movie palace.  Action on the big screen.  Suspended disbelief.  Escape.  For a few hours, entering another world.

Yet, movie theaters today have been stripped of their personality, and become cookie-cutter, boring bus-like auditoriums with a multitude of technical problems…high admission costs, less than comfortable seats, sticky floors, and stained screens, all with a definite negative impact on the theater-going experience.  Sure, nice theaters still exist, but who has the time to search for them?

Over the last decade, the concept of theaters in the home has grown rapidly.  People have built their own movie palaces, complete with star-lit ceilings and popcorn machines.  Yet, a “Home Theater” can be many things. 

In the fullest sense, a Home Theater is a dedicated room built with a purpose: to enjoy movies and video in a theatrical setting.  There is a large screen, perhaps motorized curtains, theater-style terraced seating, a high definition video projector, and custom designed surround sound system.  The room is large enough to feel like a theater, and has been designed with focus on acoustics, sight lines, control system, air conditioning, and interior design that compliments the theatrical experience.  These are the ideal High End home theaters many aspire to, and Platinum Home Theaters are experts in the design of these show places.
